Why HR is important?
HR Department, earlier considered as the most futile department, now holds the equal importance as Finance, Marketing or any other department of an organization. Few years ago where HR’s work was only limited to hiring and firing, so many new verticals have been now a part of HR profile. Without an HR personnel, you can’t even think of smooth transition of day to day business activities.
There are many reasons behind establishing a well-structured HR Department in a company among which few, which are the most important, mentioned below -
1. Talent Acquisition – It is a continuous and unavoidable process of any organization which seeks a lot of attention and consideration. From analyzing the manpower requirement for future to screening to scheduling interviews to finalising a candidate and then to retain them in the company for long, it’s an HRs job to take care of. Employers need smart, intelligent and knowledgeable people who can help them to grow exponentially and it’s not possible without HR Department.
2. Compensation and benefits – In today competitive environment it’s necessary to have a good wage policy to keep the employees motivated. Here, HR people conduct extensive wages and salary surveys to get the market insights about it. They design captivating salary structures which of course is better than the competitor, but in line with the organization’s financial status and projected revenue, provide employees with various incentives, fringe benefits which motivate employees to work harder and to stay connected with the employer for long.
3. Employee Engagement – All work no play, it’s an old policy now. Along with the office work, it’s necessary to make the employees feel engaged within the company. HR plays an important role here. Technical seminars, picnics, birthday and festive celebrations, weekly fun activities etc., are some examples of employee engagement activities which helps in breaking the ice and monotony, prevailed inside the office premises. These activities work as a rejuvenator and transmit a new energy in the employees, and it is not possible without an HR.
4. Training and Development – Earlier it was the one on lowest priority in most of the organizations, but in today’s fast-paced corporate world, training and development seems and an essential function. It allows employees to learn new skills and technologies, sharpen the existing ones, perform better, increase productivity and be a good leader. Here it’s an HR’s job to analyze the need for training and development in the company and to organize it accordingly.
5. Compliance – It’s an HRs job to ensure that the organization complies with the state employment laws. Whether it is PF, ESI, Gratuity or any other law, they have to make sure that everything is been taken care as per the labor laws, and for this, they have to keep themselves updated with every single change to avoid any flaw or penalty. HR personals have to make sure that both employers and the employees are benefited by the legal compliance.
6. Maintain the Decorum – HR professionals have to work hard on maintaining the decorum inside the organization by formulising the required policies and to make the employees adhere to those. Timely update of these polices are also done by HR Dept. They work as a mediator between the employer and the employees and helps in filling up the gap between them. They make sure that all the team members are happy working with their organization coz if they are not, they will not be able to give their full productivity, and organization may not be able to get the desired results.
7. Performance Appraisals – Performance appraisal is a tool through which the employer judges any team member’s performance within a certain duration, take decisions about salary increments and whether to promote any team member or not. At the same time, team members also get to know how well they are performing so and try to improve their performance. Designing a proper appraisal policy and its timely implementation is necessary, and this only can be done by HR Dept.
